Our Advocate: Jesus Christ the Righteous. 1 John 2:1 is the only time "advocate" is attributed to Jesus, every other time it speaks to the Holy Spirit. The Greek word is "Parakletos." "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world." (1 John 2:1-2). Jesus Christ the Righteous. This is the only time advocate is attributed to Christ, every other time it speaks to the Holy Spirit. Just as the Holy Spirit is working on our behalf in earth to Heaven, so the Lord Jesus is standing on our behalf in Heaven. We represent Him on Earth, and HE is in Heaven. The Holy Spirit makes intercession for us from earth (Romans 8:25-27) and the Son intercedes for us in Heaven (Hebrews 7:25).
