Comfort in Troubling Times Scott Pauley

Psalm 23, the Lord is My Shepherd, Jesus in Psalm 23, Psalm 23 study, what is Psalm 23 all about?

Do you have a favorite psalm? The psalm I hear most often referred to is Psalm 23. Unfortunately, it has become so associated with funerals that we easily forget that the powerful words were not written for death, but for life!

Psalm 23 is given to help sheep know their Good Shepherd. His presence brings comfort even in the midst of the most troubling times. It is true that we are living in dark days, but the God who is all Light watches over His own! He sees through the shadows and He can see us through the most difficult seasons of life. In the words of David, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

I love all of the Psalms. (You can listen to a brief overview of all 150 psalms in our archive. You will find the five sections of “A Roadmap for Life” here.) Most recently we walked through the longest Psalm, Psalm 119, in our series “All You Need.” I am excited to announce that on Monday, July 11 we are embarking on a concentrated study of Psalm 23The Shepherd in the Shadows.

Now, there is nothing new in Psalm 23 because God’s Word is eternal, but we can take a fresh look at this famous psalm. The one problem with familiar texts is that they are…well, familiar! It is easy to neglect well-known portions of Scripture and miss the message that God has for us beneath the surface. Could I challenge you to come to Psalm 23 with fresh faith? God will meet us there.

Someone rightly said, “The psalms are a pillow for a tired heart.” It is my prayer that you will find rest in Psalm 23 as we study it together. Thanks for listening.

Samson and The Sorek Valley

Mathematically, it is impossible that one man could fulfill so many unique prophecies, many of which were related to the actions of others toward him. How can you orchestrate your death in such a specific manner i.e. By crucifixion (not invented) between criminals, being given vinegar to drink while dying, being killed at the hands of the Gentiles, after being betrayed by your dear friend? These are a fraction of the hundreds of such prophecies Jesus fulfilled. It is only possible if that Man was the God-man - Jesus Christ. Our Approach The prophecies in our list are many of those connected to the circumstances, surroundings, characteristics, events, manners, and traits that the Lord Jesus fulfilled during His earthly ministry. It is by no means comprehensive but serves as a reference and devotional guide to those seeking the Lord Jesus. Types and figures have been omitted, for they are woven throughout the entirety of Scripture. Truly, every part of the Written Word points to the Word made flesh, Who dwelt among us (John 1:14). We trust this list of 55 prophecies about the first coming of Christ will serve to demonstrate the total confidence you can have that Jesus is the Messiah, the Redeemer, The Son of God.
