Giving Tuesday November 27, 2018

Unknown (1)

Across the U.S. the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has come to be known as “giving Tuesday,” an opportunity to help the needy and invest in charitable causes. There are many ministries that are being used of God to reach and teach people for Christ. Tammy and I are very happy to have a part in supporting others who are making an eternal difference.

It is my conviction that Christian giving should begin with paying the tithe and bringing offerings through your local, New Testament church. This is God’s way (1 Corinthians 16:1-2, 2 Corinthians 8). Believers should not take money from the place where God has placed them in order to give somewhere else.

At the same time, the Lord prospers His people so that they can do more than the minimum. The Lord said to His chosen people in Deuteronomy 8:18, “But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth.” God gives so that we can give! Christian business people through the centuries have played a tremendous role in funding gospel work and Christian endeavors.

We determined when we stepped into evangelism that we would not seek to raise regular financial support. Hudson Taylor said, “God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply.” I believe that. The Lord has graciously met our family along this journey and provided for our needs through His people. Someone said that there are many channels but one Source. Our good God has used many channels to be a blessing to us.

On this giving Tuesday I would like to say thank you to all of you who have been used of God to encourage us. We know that the greatest gifts are not material – they are spiritual. Your prayers and support have increased our faith and caused us to rejoice in the Lord’s kindnesses again and again. We love you and praise God for you.

Praying friends have asked if there is a way they can partner with us in the work of the gospel. If you would like to have a part in the work God has given us to do you may make a year-end, tax-deductible gift in one of two ways:

  • You may mail gifts to 1038 N. Eisenhower Drive, #174, Beckley, WV 25801. Please make checks out to the Central Missionary Clearinghouse.
  • You may give securely online at enjoyingthejourney.org/invest. All that is given online is used specifically for gospel projects and the Enjoying The Journey podcast, radio, and online resources.

God’s people don’t just give on a national day of giving. They give themselves all year long. And the greatest thing we can all give to is the advancement of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Ask the Lord today to help you be a gospel giver today and every day. May the Lord bless you richly!

M’Cheyne’s Bible Reading Plan Each year I adopt some plan for my daily devotional reading of Scripture. To be honest, I try to vary this a little each year to keep it fresh. Over the last year, I have been using a plan that Robert Murray M’Cheyne developed for the people that he pastored. It is helpful for several reasons: It leads you through the Old Testament once and the New Testament and Psalms twice during the year. It gives a variety of Scripture passages to read each day - historical, prophetical, and devotional. It divides the readings into readings for the morning and for the evening. It promotes a reading for private devotions and one for family devotions. It encourages the church family to read through the Bible together. M’Cheyne’s heart was to strengthen families and the church family, while deepening the personal devotion of each Christian. I can tell you from personal experience, that it has been a delight to follow. (Read M'Cheyne's full introduction to his system HERE).  We have decided to make M’Cheyne’s plan available through Enjoying the Journey this year, with the prayer that God will use it to lead all of us to a life full of the Word in the days ahead. Download the interactive PDF.
