The Devil Doesn’t Need Our Help! July 6, 2017

Dr. Lee Roberson used to say, “It takes no size to criticize.” Indeed one of the smallest things a man can do is to tear someone else down. Christ always sought to build men up – it is the devil who seeks to devour.

There are many names used in Scripture for Satan. One of the last ones reveals one of his lasting strategies. In the Revelation of Jesus Christ, chapter twelve, and verse ten, we read:

And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

This of course refers to a future day when the devil will finally be shut up. What a glorious day that will be! But we are living in the present, and he is alive and well.

The serpent that spoke to Eve is still whispering in the ears of God’s children. What is the devil’s word? It is accusation.

  • He accuses us to God. Listen to his assessment of Job as he stood in the presence of God.
  • He accuses God to us. This was his first accusation in the Garden – to question the goodness of God.
  • He accuses you to others, and he accuses others to you. It happens in homes, in churches, and with friends.

What is his goal?

To cause division among God’s people and to disrupt God’s purposes. His work of accusation goes on “day and night.” There is a constant spiritual attack underway.

We must recognize that he is a liar from the beginning (John 8:44). Accusations are most often built on misrepresentations. They are driven by deceit.

Now for the hard truth…

The devil speaks through any mouthpiece he can find. Even followers of Christ. This is why Jesus had to look at Peter and say, “Get thee behind me, Satan” (Matthew 16:23).

Satan’s accusations are often spread through our criticisms. Remember this: The Devil doesn’t need our help! He will do enough damage and cause enough destruction without our assistance.

Do not throw your influence in with Satan. Refuse to allow your words to be used by the destroyer. Yield your thoughts and words to the only one more powerful than the devil; allow the Lord Jesus Christ to govern every word you speak.

Soon Christ will shut up the accuser forever and only truth will reign.
