Evangelist Scott Pauley

Scott and Tammy Pauley

Scott Pauley was raised in the mountains of West Virginia. He came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior while a young man. At twelve years old, God called him to be a preacher. Scott attended Crown College in Powell, Tennessee. He and Tammy met there and were married in 1997. They have three grown children and recently became “Papa” and “Nana.” The Pauley’s have served the Lord together in local church ministry and evangelism for over 25 years.

Dr. Pauley travels full time in evangelism. His passion is to preach the Gospel, and his burden is to influence this generation for Christ. They love coffee and spending time with family. Scott and Tammy make their home in the mountains of West Virginia.

Journey Through Micah

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through Micah In the 1950s, the Quakers coined an expression. Maybe you have heard it: “speaking truth to power.” We sometimes hear this phrase in different contexts, such as in the news. Perhaps you have heard that phrase recently. It is interesting how things come back around. There is a resurgence of certain ideas and expressions, such as speaking truth to power. Sometimes that must be done in the spiritual realm. That is exactly what the prophet Micah was…

A Fruitful Winter

By Scott Pauley

Today is the first day of the winter season, according to meteorologists who track winter weather from December through February. The official first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere is later this month. At 10:03 a.m. on December 21, the North Pole will tilt to its farthest point from the sun, making it the shortest day and the longest night of the year. Where we live, the first snow came weeks ago, and the winter chill has already set…

A Thanksgiving Message from Mattaniah

By Scott Pauley

This week, I have been reading again through the Old Testament historical record of Nehemiah. It is full of names and genealogies, and I am learning to pay attention to the lesser-known characters of Scripture. They often hold a much-needed message for us all. Mattaniah was such a man. Mattaniah in the Book of Nehemiah  His name means “gift of Yahweh.” While all children are a gift from God (Psalm 127:3), some people are indeed a special gift from God…

Journey Though Philemon

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through Philemon It only takes up one page in our New Testament, yet it is quite a story. In our journey through Scripture, we come now to the letter of Philemon. It only has 25 verses, containing 445 words. It is the shortest letter the Apostle Paul ever wrote, and it has been called a model letter written by a master of letter writing. Listen: Journeying through Philemon Summary of Philemon Philemon is an interesting letter with a unique…

45 Days of Praise

By Scott Pauley

The coming holiday season of Thanksgiving and Christmas reminds us of both the goodness and grace of God. Turkeys and trees, family and festivities, gatherings and gifts are all peripheral to the praise of the Lord. There are only 45 days left in this year. No doubt, they will be busy days filled with the rush of holiday happenings. But they should be filled with something else: praise. Judah and Jesus The first mention of praise in Scripture is in…

Lessons Learned At the Funeral

By Scott Pauley

Editor’s Note: This article is a modified transcript of a recent message by Scott Pauley. The timeframe was soon after the public assassination of Charlie Kirk. In it, Scott delves into the eternal truths of Ecclesiastes 7. We trust it will stir and encourage your heart.  Lessons Learned At the Funeral  Ecclesiastes is a book about life. Specifically, it is a book about life lived apart from God. Life apart from God is pointless. In the words of Solomon, it…

Journey Through Leviticus

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through Leviticus A Christian lady was once asked if she had ever read the Bible all the way through. Her response was brutally honest, and frankly, if most of us were honest, we would have to say the same thing. She responded that she had started three times, that she had enjoyed Genesis very much and even Exodus, but she had gotten bogged down in what she called the dull reading of Leviticus. I hope you do not feel…

Journey Through 2 Corinthians

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through 2 Corinthians Many years ago, William Burns was asked, “Are you ready to preach?” His answer: “Not yet. I have not yet got a morsel for myself.” Burns understood that his own soul must be fed if he was to pass the bread on to anyone else. Keep that account in mind as we journey through 2 Corinthians. Listen: Journeying through 2 Corinthians Overview of 2 Corinthians As a preacher and teacher of the Word of God, 2…

When You Die, What Will Live On?

By Scott Pauley

It was a sunny, crisp fall day when Tammy and I visited the Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Our trip to the historic cemetery was purposeful – to visit the grave of the prolific songwriter Fanny Crosby. Fanny was the blind author who penned more than 3,000 hymns and poems that are still used in churches around the world. Her story is a story of faith and the grace of God. In a very old section of the cemetery,…

Journey Through Jonah

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through Jonah Jonah is the one Old Testament minor prophet that almost every child in Sunday School knows. This is the one book that if I asked, “Tell me everything you know about Jonah”, most people could tell me at least the general story they know of that great fish that swallowed Jonah. However, the greatest miracle in the Book of Jonah is not the great fish. The greatest miracle book is the great revival that God brought to…

10 Things to Do When Everything Changes

By Scott Pauley

When Everything Changes… Sometimes the straightest line between A and B is not the route God chooses for us. His ways and thoughts truly are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). At times we chart the course and set off toward the destination, only to see God unexpectedly change our direction. If you have been there you know what I am talking about. We wonder what to do when everything changes. At these times life can be more than a little…

Family Devotions and Spiritual Awakenings

By Scott Pauley

“I will get married in a few months. What advice do you have for me?” Working with hundreds of college students, these are words I have heard many times. As I heard them again recently, my mind filled with so many truths that others have passed on to me and my wife. Too many to remember. Too many to relay in one conversation. But there was one… One truth that seemed to rise above all of the rest. One lesson…

Journey through Ephesians

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through Ephesians “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Those are the profound words from Ephesians 2:8-9. In this overview, we journey through Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. Listen: Journeying through Ephesians Overview of Ephesians Some people call Ephesians the most impersonal of Paul’s letters. In other words, it does not deal with lots of personal things about his…

Believe

By Scott Pauley

My Bible word for the year has been the powerful imperative: Believe! In that one word, there is both a principle and a promise. The One who commands us to believe Him assures us that He is trustworthy. Indeed, all year, He has been teaching me this glorious truth in a thousand different ways. A STUDY OF HEBREWS 11 This week, we begin a brand new ETJ podcast series through the great “Hall of Faith” in Hebrews 11. This hallway…

Journey Through Jeremiah

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through Jeremiah The prophet we meet today in our journey is Jeremiah, whose name means “Jehovah appoints.” His book was written about 100 years after the prophet Isaiah. He is known as the “weeping prophet.” Some refer to him as the prophet of the broken heart. He was a lonely man. As a matter of fact, he is the only man in the Bible who was specifically told not to marry. He saw no lasting reform, and few responded…

Journey through Psalms

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through Psalms If you take your copy of the Scriptures in hand and then find the middle of your Bible, you are probably going to find yourself somewhere in the Poetic Books, the five books of poetry in the Old Testament. The interesting thing about their placement in the Word of God is that they are found in the heart of the Bible — right in the middle, right in the heart of it all. And interestingly enough, they…

Journey Through 1 Kings

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through 1 Kings Do you thank God for your family? I praise the Lord today for the family that God chose for me and the family he put me in. I love them more with every passing day. But I’m learning something; my decisions affect my entire family. You see, “none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself” (Romans 14:7). And the decisions you make affect more than just you. We discover this great message…

Is This Revival?

By Scott Pauley

Is this the Revival for which We have Prayed? For many years, faithful believers have been praying for a true revival. Skeptics said that the nation was too far gone, and others tried to manufacture man-centered substitutes for the work only God can do. Behind the scenes, in prayer closets where no one goes but God, a hungry remnant continued to pray for divine stirring. In recent days, we have witnessed an unprecedented awakening to spiritual realities in the hearts…

Journey through 1 Corinthians

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through 1 Corinthians I want to warn you that our journey through 1 Corinthians will begin with a negative, but we will end on a positive note. If you are familiar with the church in Corinth, you know that these were rather carnal believers. These were Christians who struggled with lots of pitfalls and even sin. It was an imperfect church. But let me remind you, we are all sinners, and there is no such thing as a perfect…

Journey through Ecclesiastes

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through Ecclesiastes When we study Proverbs, we see wise Solomon and all the wisdom God gave him. It is a powerful book. But now we come to the next book of the Bible — we now journey through Ecclesiastes. Solomon wrote not only Proverbs, but also Ecclesiastes. He wrote Proverbs when he was middle-aged at the height of his power and splendor. But he wrote Ecclesiastes late in life, and his seasons of life had an effect on him.…

Charlie Kirk: Man in the Arena

By Scott Pauley

3 Reflections on the Life of A Happy Warrior I do not feel the need to provide my commentary on every breaking news event, but occasionally, there are issues and individuals upon which it is impossible not to reflect deeply. The tragic death of Charlie Kirk yesterday is one of those events. Like 9/11, it will be a reference point for this generation. And it should cause us to consider the cause for which all of us are investing our…

Journey Through 2 Samuel

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through 2 Samuel 2 Samuel centers on a man named David, the second king of Israel. When you think of David, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? For most people, it is one of two things: David and Goliath or David and Bathsheba. Interesting, isn’t it? People are remembered for their greatest successes and their greatest failures. In 1 Samuel 17, you have the story of David and Goliath. That is David’s great success early…

Journey through John

Journey Through the Gospel According to John If you truly want to get to know someone, one of the best ways to do that is by speaking to someone who knows that person very well. Well, John was one of the inner circle disciples and one of the closest men to Christ during our Lord’s earthly life and ministry. As a matter of fact, he is called the beloved disciple, the one who leaned on Jesus’ breast at supper. He…

Journey Through 1 Samuel

By Scott Pauley

Journey Through 1 Samuel As we begin our journey through 1 Samuel, consider that there are stages in life, and there are stages in nations. Israel is a classic example of this. The period known in Israel’s history as the Judges is one of their darkest stages. Remember, the two preceding books of the Bible, the Book of Judges and the Book of Ruth, detail that particular period. Interestingly, the last word in the book of Ruth is the name…
