A Forwarding Address October 17, 2019

Several years ago we relocated from Tennessee to West Virginia. It was the first big move in our married lives. There were a host of little details to care for, but one of the most important was to leave behind a forwarding address. It was our personal and business connection with so many people.

Someday soon all of us are moving. You will change locations. There will come a day that you will move out of the house of clay you have lived in on this earth and will relocate to what Solomon calls man’s “long home” (Ecclesiastes 12:5). It will be your eternal address.

Scripture teaches that there are only two eternal addresses. These eternal homes are commonly referred to as heaven and hell. This is more than a geographical change – every man will either live in the presence of God or out of the presence of God forever (Revelation 21:23-27). Both are very real places.

Men decide where they want to live forever. This decision is not predetermined by God or decided by those who love you. You choose. Those who place their faith in Christ for their soul’s salvation are brought into the family of God and reserved a place in the Father’s house. A family reunion is coming that you don’t want to miss (John 14:1-6)! Those who reject Christ remain enemies of God because of their sin. Your eternal address is not decided when you move…it is decided now and sealed forever when you leave this world.

Jesus said in John 3:18, “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” Which group do you belong to?

You must know and others should know what your forwarding address will be! A man recently said to me how sad he was that his father had left this world without leaving a clear testimony for Christ. The kindest thing you can leave your family is the assurance that they will meet you again.

Settle where you will spend eternity and share with others how they can meet you again there. Moving day is coming. When you vacate your house you will leave a forwarding address.
