Calling All Evangelists! Scott Pauley

It is a great privilege to serve Christ in any way. The highest calling on earth is not the calling to be a preacher, but to simply be a follower of Jesus (Mark 3:14)! Out of that call the Lord makes clear to every minister his own calling from God. I am very grateful that the Lord has called me to be an evangelist.

As a general rule evangelists are not together very often, but when they have that opportunity it is a wonderful thing. Preachers and their wives need the fellowship of other preachers and preacher’s wives and the sharpening that comes through being with one another. One of my desires is to encourage as many evangelists as possible and to emphasize the need for more of them. (Read “We Need More Evangelists.”)

Last year at the Southwide Baptist Fellowship we hosted a luncheon for evangelists and their wives. What a refreshing time together! As a result of this we hope to make this an annual gathering at the conference.

Tammy and I look forward to hosting all evangelists and their wives who are present on Tuesday, October 11 at the Cross Roads Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, GA. If you are in evangelism we would be honored for you to join us.

Because we are catering a nice meal it is necessary to get an approximate idea of who will be able to participate. The luncheon will take place immediately after the morning sessions on that Tuesday. Please help us do a couple of things…

  1. If you have not yet registered for Southwide please do so at southwidebaptist.org. The full schedule and further details are also available on the website.
  2. Please email me personally to let us know that you will be able to join us for lunch and provide a number for us to include in the count. You may email me at sc***@****************ey.org.

Pastor Tim Rabon is moderating this year’s meeting and Pastor Kenny Kuykendall, our host pastor, is serving as vice-moderator. It is an honor to be part of this annual gathering and this is a year you will not want to miss! I hope to hear from many of you and look forward to our time together.

P.S. Would you please pray for my friend and one of our fellow evangelists and his wife, Dale and Rachel Vance. Rachel is dealing with very serious cancer at this time and we are asking God to work a miracle in her life. “Bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

When we consider the universe -- the sun, moon, and planets in our solar system -- we see evidence of God as the Creator.

Today, we begin a brand new ETJ study on the only man in the Bible called “the evangelist.” Philip was not the only evangelist in the early church, but he was the Holy Spirit’s model for what an evangelist would do. His example is not just for preachers; it is for every believer to become more effective in preaching the gospel wherever they are!

Moses Seat found in an ancient synagogue in Chorazin, in Galilee. The seat was located just inside the door of the synagogue and bears an Aramaic inscription with the name of the donor Yudan, the son of Yishmael who paid for building of the seat and its platform. (The seat pictured here is a replica placed where the original was found. The original is now in the Israel Museum.) Photo by John Buckner. Among other finds, the researchers found a synagogue built from the local volcanic basalt stones. Inside the synagogue, beside the ark where the biblical scrolls were stored, was a seat. It has been identified by many scholars as Moses’ Seat. Although it dates to after the time of Christ, this find is a remarkable fusion of biblical text and archeology. It illuminates the words of Matthew and shows us the custom He referenced.
