September! Scott Pauley

I have had a verse on my mind the last few days. Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.” We plan and prepare. We do our part, but only God can protect us and cause us to be victorious. Our lives and labors are in His hands.

These are unusual days to travel and minister but I give God the praise for His constant care and keeping. He has been so very good to us. Last week Tammy and I dropped off both of our girls (!) at Crown College. We are very grateful for them and thankful that they have a place like Crown College to attend. God willing, Grant will start 10th grade this week. These are special days.

We are excited about the meetings in the coming month and ask you to pray with us for God’s touch in each place…

In addition to these services I am continuing to do a number of video messages for churches in different parts of the country. We are posting these on our new Youtube channel and hope you will subscribe and share these Bible messages with others.

Finally, I want to invite you to join us for the Southwide Baptist Fellowship at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walkertown, NC, Monday-Wednesday, October 10-12. This important meeting, just days before our national election, will concentrate on prayer. There could not be a more important emphasis for God’s people. Register online at southwidebaptist.org.

Thank you for your prayers. We hope to see you soon!

More information on these and other meetings are available month by month at enjoyingthejourney.org/calendar or by contacting the host church directly.

Within the text, John opens and closes his thoughts with the idea of "believeth." Sandwiched between are details concerning being "born of God"; conversion, compassion, conduct, and conquest. These details give clarity to three aspects of the Christian life: faith, love, and obedience. When present, they testify to the validity that one has been "born of God."

The word for wilderness is “meedbar,” (מדבר). This word is spelled exactly the same in the Hebrew text as “he speaks, or I speak.” He speaks/I speak is written the same (מדבר) but pronounced differently “meh-dah-ber.” Ancient readers of the Hebrew Bible saw these words and linked them in their minds. Therefore, the wilderness must be the place where He speaks to you. The spectacular cliffs of Sede Boger in the south of Israel near Beersheba. It has been identified by some scholars with the Wilderness of Zin, which is mentioned in several places in Numbers and Deuteronomy. It is a popular destination for modern hikers and climbers.
