The Real Need of America, problem in America,

The Real Need of America

We are in a time of national turmoil. Rumors are swirling, tempers are flaring, and feelings of anticipation and dread are filling many minds and hearts. God’s people must not recoil from the chaos around us. It is both our right and responsibility to be involved in our nation’s affairs. We ought to use our influence and vote to lift up righteousness, as far as we are able. But there is one other thing that every Christian can do, and it is most important – we must seek God for our nation, leaders, and lost souls around us (1 Timothy 2:1-4). This is the real need of America. Please read this brief excerpt from Scott Pauley’s book The Need of Our Nation

The person most interested in the spiritual welfare of a nation, and most concerned with that country’s direction, ought to be those who love God and want truth and righteousness for their children. If anyone should be on their knees praying for their nation right now, it is those who say that they know and love the Lord.

If our country has so many churches, believers and preachers, why are we making so little impact? We have learned to organize, strategize, sensationalize, philosophize, commercialize, and sermonize, but we have forgotten how to agonize!

Samuel Chadwick summarized it well: “Nothing would turn the nation back to God so surely and so quickly as a church that prayed and prevailed. The world will never believe in a religion in which there is no supernatural power. A rationalized faith, a socialized church, and a moralized gospel may gain applause, but they awaken no conviction and win no converts.

We must pray for our own nation and ask God to do what only He can do. As we begin to pray, we will see God at work. Prayer is the greatest work because when we pray, we see the hand of Heaven move on Earth. We want God’s blessing, but we need brokenness (James 4:8-10). Revivals always begin in humbled hearts.

Many men and women of prayer have served the Lord and their nation in previous generations. It’s your turn. Will you accept this challenge now to start praying for your country, as one part of a unified prayer team bombarding Heaven on its behalf? Would you prioritize your life so that you can keep this divine appointment with a holy God each day?

Pray for our land, for its leaders, and for the Lord to do something great at this critical hour in history. It is prayer time in our country. If you love the Lord and our land, begin praying definite prayers in faith today. This is the need of our nation.

This could be a moment of spiritual awakening in our land. But Christians cannot expect unbelievers to set a spiritual tone. We must take this moment to cry out to God for our nation. There is an overwhelming sense that we are in a spiritual battle; Christians must point others to the One who is Truth and who is victorious. Do not let your eyes rest on men, but look to Christ and point others to Him as well. Our only hope is in Jesus! Would you please take time today to pray? Talk to the One who alone can rule the good and overrule evil. May God have mercy on our land. (To obtain a copy of The Need of Our Nation, or to read it for FREE – click HERE.)

4 Marks of A Christian Christmas

M’Cheyne’s Bible Reading Plan Each year I adopt some plan for my daily devotional reading of Scripture. To be honest, I try to vary this a little each year to keep it fresh. Over the last year, I have been using a plan that Robert Murray M’Cheyne developed for the people that he pastored. It is helpful for several reasons: It leads you through the Old Testament once and the New Testament and Psalms twice during the year. It gives a variety of Scripture passages to read each day - historical, prophetical, and devotional. It divides the readings into readings for the morning and for the evening. It promotes a reading for private devotions and one for family devotions. It encourages the church family to read through the Bible together. M’Cheyne’s heart was to strengthen families and the church family, while deepening the personal devotion of each Christian. I can tell you from personal experience, that it has been a delight to follow. (Read M'Cheyne's full introduction to his system HERE).  We have decided to make M’Cheyne’s plan available through Enjoying the Journey this year, with the prayer that God will use it to lead all of us to a life full of the Word in the days ahead.
