There is no book on earth like God’s Book – it is the very Word of the Living God, and every word of it is for us! I love the Bible. This library of 66 books has changed and continues to change my life. We should never allow our reading of good books to substitute for the reading of Scripture.

In my study of God’s Word I have come to appreciate a number of helpful resources that deal with the divine revelation, inspiration, preservation, translation, and illumination of Scripture. In uncertain times believers should be certain about the Bible. I recommend these books to you with the hope that they will help to strengthen your own conviction and love for The Book…

The Lord Gave the Word by Malcolm H. Watts (This little book from the Trinitarian Bible Society is one of the most thorough and readable things I have seen on the history of the Biblical Text. It deals with how we received both the Old and New Testaments and is well researched and written.)

Our God-Breathed Book: The Bible by John R. Rice (I first read this book as a very young preacher. While I may not agree with every position that Dr. Rice took on translation I love his strong position on the inspiration and inerrancy of all Scripture. This is a classic, written by a man with a heart for the gospel.)

The New Testament Documents: Are They Reliable? by F.F. Bruce (This brief book is a helpful tool in addressing the reliability of the New Testament text. Bruce’s works are good to read on the subject of the Scriptures.)

My Plea for the Old Sword by Ian R.K. Paisley (It was a privilege to hear Dr. Paisley preach before he went to heaven. He was a Spirit-filled man and a faithful Bible preacher. His book deals with the integrity of the Authorized Version of the Bible and is a reasoned rebuttal of the argument that the King James Version is mistranslated or outdated.)

The Bible for Today’s World by W.A. Criswell (I love to read books about the Bible from men who did more than talk about it – they actually preached it! Dr. Criswell’s exposition and application of Scripture is an example to us all. This book was recommended to me by a friend and is a very thorough volume on how we got our Bible.)

In the end, we must do more than talk about the Bible, we must study the Book itself! I thank the Lord for giving us His Word and promising to preserve it to every generation (Psalm 12:7). Our faith rests upon the authority of God’s precious Word.

A bee takes flight from a flower on the Western Hill in Jerusalem. This hill is in the fertile highlands, but is close to the less arable lands to the south where shepherds such as David pastured their flocks in the wilderness.

Thank you for continuing to respect Dr. Rice and recommending him. Seems many have forgotten about him, and many have discounted him because of some of his positions, but God greatly used him to influence this preacher many years ago. God bless and thank you for your kind spirit.
