All of us who are called “dad” know that, while we want the best for our children, we do not always choose the best ourselves. There are no perfect fathers, but there is one perfect Father. Paul called Him “the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3).

• He gives perfect affection (Psalm 103:13).
• He gives perfect correction (Hebrews 12:5-10).
• He gives perfect direction (Isaiah 64:8).
• He gives perfect provision (James 1:17).
• He gives perfect protection (Matthew 10:29-31).

He is the perfect Father! As a father I am so grateful for the dad that God gave to me as an example and encouragement. But regardless of what your earthly father was like I can assure you that your Heavenly Father is always good, always right, and always there.

In this life children grow up and eventually leave their fathers (at least that is the way it is supposed to be!). But for the child of God we are to continue growing until we finally enter the Father’s house forever. The Perfect Son said it best:

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

John 14:1-3

On this Father’s Day we celebrate faithful fathers – not perfect fathers, but men who were used to bring us into the world and to bring us up in the fear of the Lord. Every day we should celebrate the perfect Father and rejoice that we are called the children of God (1 John 3:1-2). We will be going to the Father’s house soon for a family reunion…don’t you think He would like to hear from you today?
