This week, people across our nation will gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving. Around tables filled with food, many will pause to say a word of thanks for all of the material and physical blessings we enjoy. But these are not the greatest blessings!

God’s greatest gifts are not bought with money. They don’t deteriorate with age or get left behind in death. The most valuable gifts are the spiritual blessings that are ours through Christ.

This Thanksgiving Day (and every day), believers should concentrate on the eternal instead of the temporal, the heavenly instead of the earthly. These are the blessings that are unchanged by time and untouched by circumstances.

In the book of Ephesians, we discover a rich list of what God has given to His children. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3). I would like to invite you to join me for the next three weeks as we open this portion of Scripture and take inventory of “all spiritual blessings” that are ours in Christ.

My heart has been amazed again as I have reflected on what God has made available for His people! Our sincere prayer is that you will discover all that God has for you and be led to true thanksgiving, worship, and praise. Listen to the first two episodes in this series now by CLICKING HERE or on your podcast player. Then plan to continue with us as we walk through the book of Ephesians in the days ahead.

May God bless you and your family this week and help you to rediscover the priceless blessings that are already yours in the Lord Jesus.

Great Expectations

Great Expectations

In antiquity, Pella in Macedonia was a major metropolis. Alexander the Great was born here. Nearby you can visit the intact tombs of his ancestors. Photo by John Buckner. In New Testament times, Macedonia was the region in the north of Greece and is estimated to have had a population of 1.5 million people. Thessalonica was the major city, but the region had other cities such as Philippi and Berea. The province housed the boyhood home of Alexander the Great, and the great road, the Via Egnatia, crossed it. The Roman province of Macedonia extended beyond the boundaries of the old kingdom of Macedonia all the way to the Aegean Sea.

God wants us to do more than hear His Word. He wants us to be obedient to it, doing the work that He has called us to do.
