Daily Fellowship (Daily Living – Part 9) Scott Pauley

DailyLiving-DailyFellowship

Recently as I was caring for some personal business the Lord reminded me of a wonderful principle. God’s people should be helping God’s people. The verse that the Holy Spirit brought to my mind was Galatians 6:10, “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” I personally do not believe this means you may only conduct business with believers, but I do believe that Christians should intentionally be looking for ways to encourage others in the family of God.

One of the buzzwords in religious circles of late has been about the need for “community.” Jesus had another name for it: “church.” This is not some new thing and certainly not man’s idea! The Lord’s intent was for His people to have Daily Fellowship with one another.

Daily Fellowship

This kind of fellowship is not to be done once a week. It is to be daily! The Scripture tells us of the new believers in the early church, “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart” (Acts 2:46).

It is of note that the very next verse says that the Lord added “daily” to the church such as should be saved. It is my conviction that daily fellowship is connected to our daily witness. Jesus declared, “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35). That is a big if!

We were saved for daily fellowship. Certainly, our fellowship is to be with God. Yet the Apostle John said when we are walking in the light we not only have fellowship with Him but also “one with another” (1 John 1:7).  A believer who cannot enjoy being with other believers is not walking in the light!

Daily fellowship is not optional; it is necessary. We need one another.

The Christian Life is a “One Another” Life

God’s design was that each member of His body contribute to all the other members. Study the New Testament and you will discover this repeated emphasis. We are to love one another, forgive one another, pray for one another, edify one another, exhort one another…

Well, you get the idea! The Christian life is never just about me. It is a “one another” life. Remember that Christ sent His disciples out two by two. Never alone.

The Psalmist declared that God setteth the solitary in families (Ps. 68:6). There is no greater family than the family of God. The fellowship of believers should be one of the most attractive things about those who know the Lord.

“Lone ranger” Christians are going to be terribly out of place in Heaven. From eternity past the Godhead enjoyed perfect fellowship. Imagine a constant conversation and communion between the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! This was the “oneness” for which Christ prayed in John 17. This is what the family portrait is supposed to look like.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Ps. 133:1)

Daily Challenge

Seek out one fellow believer every day for the next week to whom you can be a blessing. Show some kindness, share a meal, offer an encouraging word, pray with them. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you. One person every day – this will be a good first step toward daily fellowship.

Journey through 1 John

“Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.” (John 1:47-48)

Why the Story of Nathanael Sitting Under the Fig Tree Matters

It also discusses the Four Sermons in Haggai It is in that context that God raises up the prophet Haggai with four sermons in four months. The Word of the Lord comes to Haggai, and he preaches four sermons. Each one of them is dated for us. Each sermon targets a different problem. You can read them in Haggai chapters one and two. In his first sermon (Haggai 1:1-15), Haggai preached on the danger of waiting when we should be working. They were waiting for a sign to build. He said, You don't need a sign, you need to obey God. Haggai's second sermon (Haggai 2:1-9) explained the danger of lamenting the past and missing the present. They were sorrowing over the destruction of the past temple. God said, Build a new one. It was G. Campbell Morgan who said, “It is impossible to unlock the present with the rusty key of the past." Many people are bogged down in their past and miss the present. Keep in mind what is at hand and what is ahead. The third sermon he preached (Haggai 2:10-19) described the danger of seeing only the material and neglecting the supernatural. They could see the work that needed to be done, but they missed the fact that God had resources that would help them get it done. The Lord was behind all of this. The fourth sermon (Haggai 2:20-23) warned against the danger of recognizing who is against us and forgetting who is for us. They were concentrating on the opposition and forgetting that “greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). A journey through Haggai shows us the importance of performing the work that God has told us to do, and His glory in our obedience. Image leads to an overview of Haggai

How easily we read these words, know the meanings; yet, miss the impact that these words hold. Love it…..daily, oneness.
