Keep Studying the Bible With Us

Our mission at Enjoying the Journey is to help people Follow God’s Word and Find Christ’s Joy. This begins with knowing Christ as Savior and continues through a deepened knowledge of God’s will. At every step on the journey, the Scriptures are our guide.

This week we conclude our current study on JOY. I hope it has been an encouragement to your faith and a reminder of both the principle and provision of the Lord’s joy in every area of life. You may listen to all 35 of these studies at HERE. Remember in these days of spiritual conflict, “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).

A Listener Testimony

We always love hearing from those who study God’s Word with us each day. It is thrilling how the Lord connects the teaching of His Word to so many people in so many places. This week I received this encouraging email from a listener…

Four years ago, in one of the most difficult spiritual battles I have ever faced, God worked in my heart giving hope and strength through His Word and Spirit as I listened to ETJ.Many, many times since the Lord has helped through ETJ. It is such a humbling, amazing thing when the Lord works in our heart! The latest Joy series has been such a blessing. It’s just so different when the Lord is teaching us something – quickening, strengthening and equipping! Thank you so much for being faithful to the LORD! It’s a joy and privilege to hear Jesus Christ lifted up and to be taught by His Spirit through His servants. May He continue to bless ETJ to “Go…into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). Listening to and praying for you all.

New Video Podcast Series

Next week is a special emphasis week. Before we begin another extended study, I am excited to share with you some highlights from the life of Aquila and Priscilla. This series is not just for married people – it is for everyone who wants to connect their family to God’s family and their work to what God is doing in the world. As many of you know, we have just released a new book on New Testament Marriage and I believe this will be a helpful companion to that study.

The daily broadcast will be posted in audio format as always on all podcast platforms. However, we are also making these five episodes available on our YouTube channel, X, Facebook, and ETJ.Bible in video format. We hope you will plan to watch and share these special episodes with others.

Berean Believers

Occasionally you will hear people talk about someone being a “noble soul.” They typically mean that an individual is a person of character and integrity. The Holy Spirit used the word “noble” to describe the believers in Berea (Acts 17:10). The word used by Luke to describe the Bereans literally means they had a mind that was open to truth. In fact, the next verse elaborates, “…they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11).

The record of the Berean believers is strategically placed between Paul’s ministry in Thessalonica and Athens. The Thessalonican thieves didn’t want the Word and wanted to steal it from others. The Athenian academia was willing to philosophize and talk but missed the heart of the message. Our world is full of Thessalonican thieves and Athenian academia – we need more Berean believers! Study the Word every day. Stay open to what God is trying to teach you. Know what you believe and why.

It is to this end that we continue the daily teaching of God’s Word and are grateful to be making this journey with you. Thank you for your prayers and encouragement!

A journey through 1 John reveals our place in the family of God, how we can have assurance, and that our joy is rooted in Christ.

Journey through 1 John

“Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.” (John 1:47-48)

Why the Story of Nathanael Sitting Under the Fig Tree Matters

It also discusses the Four Sermons in Haggai It is in that context that God raises up the prophet Haggai with four sermons in four months. The Word of the Lord comes to Haggai, and he preaches four sermons. Each one of them is dated for us. Each sermon targets a different problem. You can read them in Haggai chapters one and two. In his first sermon (Haggai 1:1-15), Haggai preached on the danger of waiting when we should be working. They were waiting for a sign to build. He said, You don't need a sign, you need to obey God. Haggai's second sermon (Haggai 2:1-9) explained the danger of lamenting the past and missing the present. They were sorrowing over the destruction of the past temple. God said, Build a new one. It was G. Campbell Morgan who said, “It is impossible to unlock the present with the rusty key of the past." Many people are bogged down in their past and miss the present. Keep in mind what is at hand and what is ahead. The third sermon he preached (Haggai 2:10-19) described the danger of seeing only the material and neglecting the supernatural. They could see the work that needed to be done, but they missed the fact that God had resources that would help them get it done. The Lord was behind all of this. The fourth sermon (Haggai 2:20-23) warned against the danger of recognizing who is against us and forgetting who is for us. They were concentrating on the opposition and forgetting that “greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). A journey through Haggai shows us the importance of performing the work that God has told us to do, and His glory in our obedience. Image leads to an overview of Haggai
