21 Bible Prayers for Government Leaders October 13, 2024

Verses about prayer for government, Bible Prayers for Government, Bible and Government, pray for the king, praying for leaders, Bible and kings

In seasons like this, it is easy to become frustrated with the corruption, inaction, and incompetence we observe in government. It is not just in the United States either. While we as Americans have the right and duty to vote, the Apostle Paul instructed Timothy “That, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty” (in 1 Timothy 2:1-2). We cannot ignore who the ruler was during that time…it was Nero!

To walk honestly in the Word of God, we must recognize that grumbling about our leaders is a sin (1 Corinthians 10:10, Philippians 2:14); however, praying for them is a command (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Knowing what or how to pray can be challenging. There is no better prayer than one that begins in the Word of God. Find what God’s Word has to say and meditate upon it. We must pray for the Lord to work in the lives of our nation’s leaders.

To aid in this, we have created a list of 21 Bible Prayers for Government Leaders. Each day of this 21-day prayer calendar provides a specific prayer emphasis from Scripture. You can print off a copy HERE or download it to your device. Additionally, we will post one request and the Scripture every day until election day in the United States. Join us in praying for our leaders and our nation. (Be sure to follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn, and X). We ask that you read the Scriptures, pray, and encourage others to do likewise. We also made Scott’s Book, The Need of Our Nation, available HERE at no cost to you. May God be with His people and with this nation.

“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will” (Proverbs 21:1).

M’Cheyne’s Bible Reading Plan Each year I adopt some plan for my daily devotional reading of Scripture. To be honest, I try to vary this a little each year to keep it fresh. Over the last year, I have been using a plan that Robert Murray M’Cheyne developed for the people that he pastored. It is helpful for several reasons: It leads you through the Old Testament once and the New Testament and Psalms twice during the year. It gives a variety of Scripture passages to read each day - historical, prophetical, and devotional. It divides the readings into readings for the morning and for the evening. It promotes a reading for private devotions and one for family devotions. It encourages the church family to read through the Bible together. M’Cheyne’s heart was to strengthen families and the church family, while deepening the personal devotion of each Christian. I can tell you from personal experience, that it has been a delight to follow. (Read M'Cheyne's full introduction to his system HERE).  We have decided to make M’Cheyne’s plan available through Enjoying the Journey this year, with the prayer that God will use it to lead all of us to a life full of the Word in the days ahead. Download the interactive PDF.
