Are you spiritually fit? Spiritual health does not come on accident – it is a product of purposeful disciplines. In recent days the Lord has taken me again to the words of 1 Timothy 4:6-8,

If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou has attained. But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Isn’t it interesting that the same two elements that are necessary for physical health are necessary for spiritual health. That which is reflected in the body finds its greatest reality in the soul!

  • Diet: Your soul must be nourished daily in “the words of faith and of good doctrine.” If you would ever feed others, you must learn to feed yourself. In God’s Word we find bread, milk, meat, and water! Everything you need for your soul is spread on the table of the Scriptures.
  • Exercise: This word is the same word from which we get our word “gymnasium.” Godliness requires discipline, determination, duty, and diligence. We must take the truth which we have fed on and put it in motion in our lives. It must be repeatedly applied. This is spiritual strength training.

More than ever I realize that the greatest need of my heart is to keep myself spiritually “in shape.” I cannot be the husband, father, friend, witness, or preacher that I ought to be if I neglect the basics. No one can.

Our free resource for May is a tool that my friend Stephen Troell has laid out. This simple one month Bible reading schedule is designed to walk you through the Gospel records. It is a wonderful way to walk with Jesus for 30 days.

I want to encourage you to download it and use it in your devotional time. Ask the Lord to feed your soul and to help you exercise yourself to godliness. May the Lord help us all to be more like Jesus…

Use the Walking With Jesus tool.

Samson and The Sorek Valley

Mathematically, it is impossible that one man could fulfill so many unique prophecies, many of which were related to the actions of others toward him. How can you orchestrate your death in such a specific manner i.e. By crucifixion (not invented) between criminals, being given vinegar to drink while dying, being killed at the hands of the Gentiles, after being betrayed by your dear friend? These are a fraction of the hundreds of such prophecies Jesus fulfilled. It is only possible if that Man was the God-man - Jesus Christ. Our Approach The prophecies in our list are many of those connected to the circumstances, surroundings, characteristics, events, manners, and traits that the Lord Jesus fulfilled during His earthly ministry. It is by no means comprehensive but serves as a reference and devotional guide to those seeking the Lord Jesus. Types and figures have been omitted, for they are woven throughout the entirety of Scripture. Truly, every part of the Written Word points to the Word made flesh, Who dwelt among us (John 1:14). We trust this list of 55 prophecies about the first coming of Christ will serve to demonstrate the total confidence you can have that Jesus is the Messiah, the Redeemer, The Son of God.
