My Bible word for the year has been the powerful imperative: Believe! In that one word, there is both a principle and a promise. The One who commands us to believe Him assures us that He is trustworthy. Indeed, all year, He has been teaching me this glorious truth in a thousand different ways.

A STUDY OF HEBREWS 11

This week, we begin a brand new ETJ podcast series through the great “Hall of Faith” in Hebrews 11. This hallway is the vestibule of Heaven; it leads us into the throne room of the Almighty God. As we walk through these 40 verses, past the Spirit-selected examples of genuine faith, we draw nearer to God who can be trusted!
Scripture is full of the biographies of men and women, faithful and faithless, who serve as positive and negative illustrations to every generation. 3,237 individuals are mentioned by name in the Word of God. One of my favorite ways to study the Bible is through the lens of their lives. They are real people who show us the reality of God in every circumstance. (We have begun to share Bible Biography books periodically to aid in this study. You may find current titles from the lives of Joseph in the Old Testament and Aquila and Priscilla in the New Testament. Watch for additional resources in this series soon.)
Hebrews 11 identifies 16 men and women of faith by name. An innumerable host of others are referenced. But the main character of the chapter is the One who is the object of our faith – the faithful God – and everyone must come to trust Him for themselves.

LEARNING TO BELIEVE GOD

We are thankful that the podcast audience has grown in amazing ways this year. Subscribe to Enjoying the Journey on any podcast platform, and then watch for the introductory broadcast in this series: Believe! Learning to Live by Faith. Invite someone else to listen with you and discuss the studies together. Just today I heard from a podcast listener who shared ETJ with her sister for whom they have been praying 48 years. Last week she listened to one of the gospel broadcast and trusted Christ as her Savior.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world” (Romans 10:17-18). Pray with us that God will carry these messages “into all the earth” and “unto the ends of the world.” May many more come to Believe!

I am excited to share these episodes with you over the next several weeks. We are all on our journey of faith with the Lord and it is my desire to pass on some faith building truths that the Lord is teaching me. Read Hebrews 11 and journey with us through this amazing portion of Scripture. I believe you will enjoy the journey.

Your fellow traveler,

Scott Pauley

Mattaniah was a descendant of Asaph (1 Chronicles 9:15) and one of the many Levites who labored in the Temple worship during Nehemiah's day. National thanksgiving was deeply personal for Mattaniah.
