ONWARD! Scott Pauley

Acts 10-28, Journey Through Acts 10-28

The uttermost…ends of the earth…all the world…every creature…whosoever will. Scripture repeatedly emphasizes the length of our mission and the breadth of God’s message. Christ’s gospel is not regional, national, or cultural. Its only limitation is the one we put on it by failing to share it!

Let there be no doubt: God loves all people and Christ died for every person (Hebrews 2:9). If our Lord went to such sacrifice to make a way of salvation, should we not take that good news to everyone?

On Monday we will return to the Book of Acts for the third section of our study. Chapters 10 through 28 record for us the advancement of the church beyond Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria. This is where we must go – beyond our own comfort zone – to the uttermost part of the earth. ONWARD!

I hope you will plan to join us as we travel along with Paul and the missionary teams. Like Luke, I hope you will do more than observe their witness, you will join the team! The adventure continues in our generation.

The last verse of Acts is so interesting…

Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him” (Acts 28:31).

At the end of the book Paul is still doing what Christ began at the beginning of the book. Preaching the gospel of God’s kingdom! Teaching the truth of the Lord Jesus Christ! Confidence! And, though there will be opposition, there is no limit on the work of God!

Notice particularly what is not there – No benediction. No summary. No closing prayer. No amen. Because there is no end to the story! ONWARD!

While no more Spirit-inspired Scripture is being written, the story of Christ’s church and the gospel advance is still being recorded in Heaven. Soon we will gather around the throne and the books will be open. Let’s find our place and do our part while we still have opportunity.

May God help us not to miss our gospel moment! Join us next week as we dive back into this thrilling study and join us in sharing the gospel today. The adventure continues…ONWARD!

Within the text, John opens and closes his thoughts with the idea of "believeth." Sandwiched between are details concerning being "born of God"; conversion, compassion, conduct, and conquest. These details give clarity to three aspects of the Christian life: faith, love, and obedience. When present, they testify to the validity that one has been "born of God."

The word for wilderness is “meedbar,” (מדבר). This word is spelled exactly the same in the Hebrew text as “he speaks, or I speak.” He speaks/I speak is written the same (מדבר) but pronounced differently “meh-dah-ber.” Ancient readers of the Hebrew Bible saw these words and linked them in their minds. Therefore, the wilderness must be the place where He speaks to you. The spectacular cliffs of Sede Boger in the south of Israel near Beersheba. It has been identified by some scholars with the Wilderness of Zin, which is mentioned in several places in Numbers and Deuteronomy. It is a popular destination for modern hikers and climbers.
