Start Your Year With the Bible Scott Pauley

“The entrance of thy words giveth light; It giveth understanding unto the simple.” – Psalm 119:130

Shortly, we will begin a new year…2024! The best way to start your year is to begin with the Bible. January is a natural time to start again in your reading of Scripture. Many believers look for ideas they can implement to keep their time in God’s Word fresh.

Would you like to take your devotional life to the next level? We would like to invite you to join us for a special Enjoying the Journey seminar on the first Saturday of 2024. “Start Your Year with the Bible” will be conducted by Scott Pauley on Saturday, January 6, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. All sessions will be taught in the Governor’s Theatre at the Tamarack. The Tamarack is located just off of I-64/I-77 in Beckley, WV.

Four sessions will cover a variety of aspects of our relationship to Scripture:

  1. Learn how to read your Bible more effectively.
  2. Find practical ways to study the Word of God.
  3. Receive helpful tips for teaching the Bible to others – in your home, church, or Bible study group.
  4. Discover the secret of connecting your prayers to Scripture.

Individuals and groups are welcome. The event is free but seating is limited. You may register now to reserve your place at enjoyingthejourney.org/seminar. Bring a ready mind, an open heart, and something to take notes! A beautiful Enjoying the Journey journal will be available for purchase. This journal would be a wonderful tool to use devotionally in the new year.

General Schedule:

  • 10:00 – Session 1
  • 11:00 – Session 2
  • 12:00 – Lunch. The Tamarack cafeteria, “A Taste of West Virginia” serves a variety of meal options, prepared by Greenbrier trained chefs. Those attending the event will receive a 10% discount.
  • 1:15 – Session 3
  • 2:15 – Session 4

During breaks, attenders will also have access to the coffee shop, art galleries, and Tamarack shopping. Mark your calendar now and plan to join us for the whole day! If you have not yet registered, please do so now at enjoyingthejourney.org/seminar. We look forward to seeing you in January.

Thy word is true from the beginning: And every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.” – Psalm 119:160

This event will not be live streamed, but sessions will be recorded. We look forward to sharing the content on our Youtube channel in the future.

Within the text, John opens and closes his thoughts with the idea of "believeth." Sandwiched between are details concerning being "born of God"; conversion, compassion, conduct, and conquest. These details give clarity to three aspects of the Christian life: faith, love, and obedience. When present, they testify to the validity that one has been "born of God."

The word for wilderness is “meedbar,” (מדבר). This word is spelled exactly the same in the Hebrew text as “he speaks, or I speak.” He speaks/I speak is written the same (מדבר) but pronounced differently “meh-dah-ber.” Ancient readers of the Hebrew Bible saw these words and linked them in their minds. Therefore, the wilderness must be the place where He speaks to you. The spectacular cliffs of Sede Boger in the south of Israel near Beersheba. It has been identified by some scholars with the Wilderness of Zin, which is mentioned in several places in Numbers and Deuteronomy. It is a popular destination for modern hikers and climbers.
