“They Strengthened Their Hands for This Good Work.” Scott Pauley

Weariness is a part of life and certainly a reality for those who are intent on working for the Lord. Even Jesus grew weary on His journey (John 4:6). Yet as you read the rest of the story in John 4 you discover that He knew how to get Himself refreshed and in the midst of it continued to minister to others. This is what we all must learn if we are to continue moving forward.

One month from today we will be in our annual Rest Conference. This retreat for ministers and their spouses is a way to come apart for a short time to have your soul renewed. This year we have taken as our theme Nehemiah 2:18:

Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.”

Our God is the strong One! He never gets weary or tired (Isaiah 40:28). There is always an end to our resources, but thank God, there is no end to His! He makes a way so that we can find strength to keep building and battling in these days.

Would you consider joining us? Pastor Scott Hooks and I, along with our wives, look forward to spending time with you and studying the Word together. Moses Seat found in an ancient synagogue in Chorazin, in Galilee. The seat was located just inside the door of the synagogue and bears an Aramaic inscription with the name of the donor Yudan, the son of Yishmael who paid for building of the seat and its platform. (The seat pictured here is a replica placed where the original was found. The original is now in the Israel Museum.) Photo by John Buckner. Among other finds, the researchers found a synagogue built from the local volcanic basalt stones. Inside the synagogue, beside the ark where the biblical scrolls were stored, was a seat. It has been identified by many scholars as Moses’ Seat. Although it dates to after the time of Christ, this find is a remarkable fusion of biblical text and archeology. It illuminates the words of Matthew and shows us the custom He referenced.
