When people speak about Christ coming to earth, the first time they usually talk about HOW He came. But the great emphasis of Scripture is on WHY He came! In this series, we examine the purpose statements found throughout the gospel records. Each of them helps us to understand more about Jesus.

Even the first followers of Jesus did not fully understand at first why Jesus came. In one passage of Scripture, they were so aggravated with a group of sinners that they wanted to call down fire on them! We all get there sometimes. Why is it that we get annoyed with sinners when they act like sinners? Christ offered a stern rebuke to this attitude: “But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of” (Luke 9:55). Then, He instructed them: “For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them” (Luke 9:56). It is only as we come to see Christ’s purpose that we begin to see the world as we must see the world.

I am praying that each of us will gain a fresh glimpse of Christ and come to love Him (and others) more because of it. This is more than a Christmas series – it is an emphasis on what truly matters as we finish one year and cross the threshold into the next. Join us for this study over the next three weeks (or 15 episodes) and encourage others to listen as well. God wrote it down for us, and we can read it in His own words! This is “Why Jesus Came.” (Listen in the player below, on this archive page, or any podcast platform.)
