TRUTH. March 29, 2021

Such a beautiful word: truth. Its substance is much the same as its sound – simple and straightforward. There seems to be a short supply of it in our world today. Who do you believe? How can you know that what you are hearing is accurate? In a world of lies we must always return again and again to “the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

Truth is the nature of our God! “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he” (Deuteronomy 32:4). Truth characterized Christ when He came to earth (John 1:14), and He has designed it so that truth is to be a distinguishing mark of all of His children…

  • We study the truth (2 Timothy 2:15).
  • We know the truth (John 8:32).
  • We believe the truth (Ephesians 1:13).
  • We pray in truth (Psalm 145:18).
  • We think truth (Philippians 4:8).
  • We walk in truth (Psalm 86:11).
  • We stand in truth (Ephesians 6:14).
  • We worship in truth (John 4:24).
  • We speak the truth (Ephesians 4:15, 25).
  • We love in truth (1 John 3:18).
  • We rejoice in the truth (1 Corinthians 13:6).
  • We follow the Spirit into all truth (John 16:13).

Truth is non-negotiable for followers of the one who IS truth (John 14:6)!

All of Scripture is truth, but did you know there are two books of the New Testament that deal entirely with this subject? 2 John and 3 John are the smallest of John’s letters. (In fact, 3 John is the shortest book in the Bible with only 294 words.) Yet they are packed full of truth about truth!

Both books have a common theme – “walking in truth.” It is not merely something believed, it is acted upon and shared with others. God’s truth is never static, never stagnant – it is to be obeyed and worked out in every step of life.

This week we will begin posting a new sermon series through these two little books. 2 and 3 John provide principles for all New Testament Christians. The first letter was written to a woman and the second was written to a man. While the woman is unnamed and the man is largely unknown, they both were known as people of truth. This is what God desires for each of us.

Would you take time to read and pray through 2 and 3 John over the next few days? Ask the Lord to make you a man or woman of truth. Subscribe to the Enjoying the Journey Youtube channel and watch for these five Bible messages over the next few weeks. The first will be available tomorrow.

Remember that sin is a lie and Satan is a liar. The truth is in Jesus.
