Some seasons are busier than others, but it seems the Christmas season is always full of hurry. Programs and shopping and get togethers and…life! It is easy to just exist, and sadly miss the joy of Jesus during the very holiday that celebrates His birth.

If you would like to make the most of the last days of December, and be prepared for the beginning of a new year, let me encourage you to concentrate on Christ. He makes everything better. I am reading through the gospel according to Luke this month and the Holy Spirit is reminding me again how wonderful Christ is. (More on that here.) Choose some way every day to intentionally think on the Lord Jesus and seek to meditate on Him as you go about each task.

During this month we are posting various messages related to the coming of Christ on our Youtube channel. The first is about the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of those who saw the Christ child. It is available now and a new one will be released each Tuesday. (Subscribe and watch here!) It is our prayer that these Bible messages will help you to think more deeply through familiar portions of Scripture and more fully about the Lord Jesus. Concentrate on Christ this Christmas!

This is a truth we all need in these days of distraction. We all need Jesus and He is all we need! In the words of Paul, “Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all” (Colossians 3:11).

Within the text, John opens and closes his thoughts with the idea of "believeth." Sandwiched between are details concerning being "born of God"; conversion, compassion, conduct, and conquest. These details give clarity to three aspects of the Christian life: faith, love, and obedience. When present, they testify to the validity that one has been "born of God."

The word for wilderness is “meedbar,” (מדבר). This word is spelled exactly the same in the Hebrew text as “he speaks, or I speak.” He speaks/I speak is written the same (מדבר) but pronounced differently “meh-dah-ber.” Ancient readers of the Hebrew Bible saw these words and linked them in their minds. Therefore, the wilderness must be the place where He speaks to you. The spectacular cliffs of Sede Boger in the south of Israel near Beersheba. It has been identified by some scholars with the Wilderness of Zin, which is mentioned in several places in Numbers and Deuteronomy. It is a popular destination for modern hikers and climbers. I heard that celebrating Dec.25th is a pagan, Roman ritual that started as worshiping saturnalia and other things and we shouldn’t do it,any truth 2 it??

The fact that there is a pagan holiday at the same time does not mean there is a connection. In fact, there is no mention of this during the first 300 years after Christ that His birth was celebrated. People have tried to make that connection in recent times.

It is true that we do not know exactly the date of Christ’s birth. There are varying positions on the exact time but the principle remains that He was born of a virgin and that is what we celebrate.
