The Weekend Pulpit: And This I Pray

Each Saturday on “The Weekend Pulpit” we share a full-length Bible message from a recent meeting. Currently we are posting messages that I gave at the Wilds youth camp last summer. These messages deal with a variety of Scripture passages:

  • The morning messages came from selected Psalms and each dealt with a particular aspect of who God is and how we can know Him more personally.
  • The evening messages came from the gospel of action, the book of Mark, and were given with the aim of calling young people to become true followers of Jesus.

I have learned that the power to help young people is the same as any other group of people – they need the Bible! God’s Word has power and the Holy Spirit works through the truth. These messages were given to young people but they are not just for young people. God’s truth transcends generational boundaries (Psalm 100:5).

This week’s message is a brief parenthesis, but one that I pray God will use in a special way. During the camp week I had the joy of spending some time with a group of parents and youth workers. I can identify with both. For many years my primary work was youth ministry and Tammy and I have had the privilege of having 3 teenagers of our own. I don’t have all of the answers. In fact, at this point I have more questions than ever!

But the Word has the counsel we all need at every season. If you are raising young people or working with them, I hope you will take time to listen to “Guiding Young People through the Seasons of Life.” You can find it, like all of our broadcasts, on our YouTube channel, your favorite podcast player, or at enjoyingthejourney.org.

Young people need guidance…and so do their parents and leaders. The God of all wisdom gives us definite help so that we can help guide the next generation to Him. May God use you at this season…

What Can We Learn From Jonah?

The King Herod who built the Herodium is the same Herod who tried to kill Jesus, and ordered the slaughter of the babies in nearby Bethlehem. He knew his subjects hated him, so before he died, he provided for his tomb to be guarded after his death. After a couple of years, the money ran out so the guards went home. The vengeful locals trashed his palace and smashed his ornate mausoleum to tiny pieces.
