A Reminder for 2018 January 6, 2018

Today is the last day of the first week of a new year. Imagine each year as a puzzle with fifty-two pieces. The first piece is now in place.

Recently I heard someone talking about “chance.” Christians should not view life as an accident. Life is about choices. There are two kinds of choices:

  • There are choices God makes for us. These we must accept.
  • There are choices God gives us to make. These we must act on.

Each piece of the puzzle is either providence or a personal decision.

If God allows us to live and tarries His return, in just a few weeks we will again be celebrating the conclusion of another year. The picture that we view then will be more complete than the one we see today, but it is being created right now.

Take this verse as a reminder for every day…

A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps” (Proverbs 16:9).

Rest in the God who always chooses well and determine for your part to choose His best continually.

What Can We Learn From Jonah?

The King Herod who built the Herodium is the same Herod who tried to kill Jesus, and ordered the slaughter of the babies in nearby Bethlehem. He knew his subjects hated him, so before he died, he provided for his tomb to be guarded after his death. After a couple of years, the money ran out so the guards went home. The vengeful locals trashed his palace and smashed his ornate mausoleum to tiny pieces.

The altar of sacrifice in front of the holy of holies in Arad. Even though it is a smaller imitation, the temple here gives the visitor an idea of how the Temple in Jerusalem appeared.
