Today I have the opportunity to preach to a wonderful group of preachers. My heart is to encourage them. Thank the Lord for faithful ministers! Like their Chief Shepherd they live “not to be ministered unto, but to minister.” Yet in the midst of busy lives and labors ministers must pause long enough to minister to their own inner man. Too often while Christian workers are building the kingdom they are tearing down their own souls.

It was for this purpose that Pastor Scott Hooks and I hosted The Preacher’s Rest last year in Hickory, North Carolina. The response was overwhelming. We had a wonderful time of fellowship, study, and prayer with so many preachers and their wives. Our desire was simply to strengthen the hearts and homes of those who lead in the Lord’s work.

I am happy to announce that sixteen messages and sessions given to both men and ladies in this meeting are now available on MP3. For your convenience all of the messages have been packaged on a special jump drive. If you would like to have this resource for yourself or a preacher you want to encourage we would love to send it to you. For a donation of any amount at enjoyingthejourney.org/invest we will send you these helpful MP3’s.

The next Preacher’s Rest is scheduled for September 2-4, 2019. We would be honored to have you join us. More information will be available soon at thepreachersrest.com. Pastor Hooks and I hope you will mark your calendar and plan to be with us.

Those who spend their lives seeking to help others need help for their own souls…the help that comes from God alone. Please join me in praying for preachers today and encourage them to join us this coming Labor Day for the Preacher’s Rest. Their work is vital and their lives are precious. May God help us all to help preachers!

There are many who base their entire view of themselves, their purpose, and their worth on the perception of others. In our day, many people allow social media algorithms to define them rather than our eternal God. Algorithms or Almighty God? This is a Battle for Definition.

Algorithms or Almighty God: Who Defines You?

When Onesimus was thrown in jail, Paul shared with him the glorious message of forgiveness and mercy in Jesus Christ. Onesimus becoame a believer as well. Imagine his shock when he found out the man who had just led him to the Lord Jesus Christ also showed his master (Philemon) how to be saved. Further, they are dear friends! Onesimus was sent back to Philemon, back home with a letter of pardon. That letter stated that his life was changed forever.

The purpose of Bible memory and how to practice it. God wrote a memory Book! This is what the Word of God was given for: to help us remember what God wants us to remember and what we are so prone to forget. Scripture memory is frequently emphasized to children and young people, but sorely neglected as we get older. Yet this is the time when God's Word most needs to be reinforced and rehearsed! Hebrews 2:1 says, "Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip."
