3 Positive Ways To Use Your Social Media

There is a lot of negative talk in this world. Social media has only amplified it. Sadly, many believers use their social media just like those who do not know God. Disagreements are aired for the world to see. Accusations are thrown flippantly. Complaining is the norm. “My brethren, these things ought not so to be” (James 3:10).

Social media is not going away. For sure there are checks and balances that we all should place on the amount of time we give to it and the type of content we post on it. Perhaps the greatest thing we can do is learn to use it for good and for God. When social media platforms are engaged in things that honor the Lord it is likely that other things will not be there!

Consider these 3 simple ways that you can use your social media in a positive way today…

  • Use the social media posts of others as a prayer list. We scroll and scroll. But do we pray? When you see someone in distress and difficulty, pause to pray. If you see someone struggling, ask the Lord to work in their life. Let posts be a prayer prompter and not a gossip generator.
  • Use your social media as a platform for the gospel. We all have a measure of influence. Do your friends and followers see Christ through your posts? Share a Scripture, a brief testimony, a truth God is teaching you. And be sure that all of your other posts don’t nullify the sincerity of those posts! Scroll through your own posts and ask yourself if people will think more highly of Jesus because of your words.
  • Use your social media interactions to encourage and edify. It may be a comment or a private message, but your words may be the very thing that someone needs to keep moving forward. “Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad” (Proverbs 12:25).

Social media is a tool – a tool to be used. The question is: will we use it for good or evil? For God or ourselves? Determine by God’s grace that you will only post things on social media that will bring good to others and glory to God.

Amen! I can have a love-hate with social media, but I have met Christians all over the states who I stay in contact with through it. I also use it (like you) to share what the Lord has laid on my heart through my blog posts. Thank you for the encouragement and truth in yours.

I have had to be on social media for my ministry and has been difficult for me as I was never on it before. God led me right off the bat to apply all those tactics. I have heard responses from my readers that they are encouraged in the Lord, but the most beautiful thing God has done is allowed me to lead a precious young woman to Christ through private messenger on Instagram!
The devil can use social media for evil or we can choose to use it for God’s glory. It is a great tool to reach people for Christ that we may never actually meet, expanding our mission field.
