Don’t Be The Devil’s Messenger! March 9, 2021

Satan is a liar and a critic. Scripture identifies him as “the accuser of our brethren” (Revelation 12:10). Sadly, he gets a lot of help from many “brethren” and he obviously doesn’t need any assistance!

Did you know that as surely as God desires to use you, so does the devil? The serpent didn’t want Eve – he wanted to use her against the Creator. Satan’s goal with Job was merely to use him as a weapon against a good God.

According to James, the same mouth can bring blessing and cursing, good and evil (James 3:10). Peter is a powerful example of this truth. The same man who stood and preached on the day of Pentecost was on another occasion the Devil’s mouthpiece. The Lord Jesus Christ looked him in the face and said, “Get thee behind me Satan” (Matthew 16:23). At that point he was being used as a mouthpiece for the enemy.

Proverbs 18:21 declares that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” We must choose constantly which it will be in us. Jesus said, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh” (Luke 6:45).

Yes, the Devil will use anybody! This is why we must “give no place to the devil” in our lives (Ephesians 4:27). When we do, it always comes out in our lips. Words eventually reveal the heart – your mouth will tell on you.

What is the best way to keep from being the Devil’s messenger? Ask the Lord to make you His messenger each day. As long as we are speaking truth, love, mercy, and grace we cannot speak anything to the contrary. We have too much good news to share to become a messenger of evil things. Like John the Baptist, let’s all determine to be a voice for our God, pointing people to Jesus Christ.
