It is fitting that at the time of year when we celebrate the birth of Christ there is a renewed discussion on the sacredness and dignity of every child. Herod did not think so and he had millions of Jewish baby boy’s senselessly murdered for his own agenda. Our modern society is just as savage, taking the lives of helpless, innocent children while still in the womb.

Every unborn baby has a divine purpose. When we cannot see them, God does!

For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them (Psalm 139:13-16).

Three years before I was born, Roe v. Wade was passed. I am grateful to God that my parents chose life for me, but 62 million babies have been put to death since 1973. Think of it: 18% of our current population murdered before they ever had a chance.

The United States Supreme Court will soon rule on the constitutionality of abortion in our nation. According to our own government’s records, for every 1,000 babies born in America nearly 200 are aborted.

Imagine 9/11 every day. This is the current state of abortions in our country – 3,000 a day. Yet few are aware; even fewer are broken.

Last week I heard a conservative commentator discussing the “delicate balance” between a baby’s life and a mother’s liberty. The argument, based in secular thinking, was built on a false premise. Life always comes before liberty. One person’s liberty is not allowed to eradicate another person’s life – not on the streets, not in a neighborhood, and not in the womb.

God made man and woman in His own image and gives life to every person. He sustains life according to His perfect plan. When we take innocent life in our hands we are taking the place that only God is to have. This presupposes that we know better than the all-knowing God who deserves to live. Abortion is contrary to the perfect, giving, self-sacrificing love of God.

Our generation is the Cain generation, and the blood of millions of unborn children cries out to God from the ground. Yes, we are our brother’s keeper.

Imagine a “Christian” nation whose culture has so changed that the taking of a baby’s life is legal, normal, and even considered “moral” by some. We do not need conservative, secular arguments. We need Christian people, spiritual people to pray that God will turn our nation back to Him. Only a right view of God can give a righteous position on the subject of abortion.

I have had the joy in recent weeks to be with a number of precious families who have adopted children. They view their new sons and daughters as gifts from God – as we should all children (Gen. 4:1; Ps. 127:3). Let’s pray that a biblical view of abortion will return and the beautiful act of adoption will increase.
