5 Ways You Can Help Your Pastor On Sunday

For those who know Jesus every Lord’s day is a celebration of the risen Christ. We are all aware that Easter Sunday is one of the Sundays that more unchurched people attend. Preachers of the gospel around the world are diligently preparing to preach the message of salvation in a few hours, but have you ever considered how God could use you this Sunday?

  1. Bring someone with you to hear the message. All true Christians would say that they want others to come to know Christ. One key to this is simply getting those people under the sound of the gospel. You can’t preach to people who aren’t there! Make it your business to reach out to those you love. Don’t just invite them – bring them.
  2. Come early and greet others. Families will be busy getting their Easter outfits on and pictures taken. Make it a priority to arrive early. Don’t leave it up to parking attendants, door greeters, and ushers to say hello to visitors. Be a self-appointed greeting committee. It is good for all of us to get out of our routines, out of our groups, out of our chairs, and out of ourselves. Help make your church a warm and welcoming place this week.
  3. Pray through the meeting. Yes, they will have seasons of prayer during the worship service. Discerning people know that spiritual warfare will be taking place in the hearts of hearers and the victory will only be won through prevailing prayer. Your pastor will have greater liberty and others will be better prepared to receive the truth if someone is praying. Pray. Pray. Pray.
  4. Help remove distractions. It goes without saying that we should work not to be a distraction ourselves. Mobile phones, unsupervised children, and a host of other things could be the means of someone not listening carefully to the preaching of the Word. Try to help others around you to be comfortable. (Note: A special thanks to all of the nursery and children’s workers who will not be sitting with their families on Sunday. Your labor is not in vain, both where you are, and in helping the auditorium be a place where people can concentrate on the truth.)
  5. Be a personal witness and a gospel worker. The Lord may give you the opportunity to share your testimony with someone throughout the day. All gospel preachers are not on the platform! Watch those around you when the gospel appeal is given. The Holy Spirit may prompt you to say a kind word to a lost soul or to offer to go pray with them. Even when the meeting has concluded there is always fruit to be gathered. Ask the Lord to use you in some way and be alert to any divine appointment He has for you.

In these simple ways, and through a multitude of others, God can use you this Sunday – and every Sunday. Every church member can be a help to their pastor and to those he is seeking to minister to. May the Lord give all of us the most fruitful Sunday for the glory of God!
