Yesterday I had the privilege to speak to a group of pastoral staff men in the church where I am preaching. It was a joy to share with them truths that God and my pastor graciously taught me as a staff member. As I spoke to them, I was reminded how truly grateful all of God’s people should be if they have a faithful pastor.

Across this land, there are hundreds of churches in need of shepherds to feed and lead the flock. If God has provided such a man for your family, stop and thank the Lord today. What would it be like NOT to have a faithful pastor?

While you are praising God, write a note to your pastor and his wife. Express your appreciation for their labor of love. Ponder these verses and then practice them…

  • And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourself” (1 Thess. 5:12-13).
  • Let him that is tough in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things” (Gal. 6:6).

In my meeting this week, I provided the men with a simple prayer list – 7 specific, Scriptural things to pray for their pastor. You can find the list here and use it yourself. Praise God for your pastor…and pray for him.

Mattaniah was a descendant of Asaph (1 Chronicles 9:15) and one of the many Levites who labored in the Temple worship during Nehemiah's day. National thanksgiving was deeply personal for Mattaniah.
