Amy Carmichael was an amazing servant of Christ. As a young woman she sat in a meeting where D.L. Moody was preaching on the elder brother of Luke 15. When he came to the father’s words, “All that I have is thine,” the Holy Spirit spoke to her in a definite way. She thought of all that she had in Christ – all of the truth, all of the blessing, all of the joy. And then she thought of all that others had never received.

God called Amy to go to India with the gospel. For many years she ministered to young girls who were being sold as prostitutes in Hindu temples. It was her joy to tell them that there was a Heavenly Father who loved them and gave His Son so that they could be saved. The Lord used Amy Carmichael to bring thousands of souls to Himself during her eventful life.

At one point in her work she became overwhelmed with the need and the lack of laborers. She wrote home to England asking for reinforcements. But no help came. In fact, no one even bothered to answer her letter.

It was at this time that Amy Carmichael penned the now famous description of a dream God gave to her. I have used this story in my message entitled “Mind the Gap.” I share it as the free tool for this month in the hope that God will use it to stir many to give themselves to the work of witnessing this summer.

One of the saddest verses in the Bible is Jeremiah 8:20, “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.” This must not be the summary of the summer of 2017! Every day is a good day for the gospel, but the summer provides many special opportunities to get the truth to our towns.

In a recent campaign with 17 churches we designated this summer “The Summer of the Gospel.” Would you make this summer the summer of the gospel in your life? With your family? In your neighborhood? Through your church?

What a powerful thing it would be if all of us minded the gaps where we are this summer! May God give us an army of people like Amy Carmichael on the front lines of the battle for souls. Think of all that you have in Christ and all that they have never heard.

Read her words. Share them with others. Pray that God would give you this same passion to bring Christ to the lost and the lost to Christ.
