“A Certain Disciple Was There” January 8, 2025

Micah, Micah Hendry

Micah and Ana Hendry

It has always interested me that as Paul traveled preaching the gospel the Lord allowed people to cross his path at just the right time. He sets divine appointments for His servants. On Paul’s second missionary journey, he came into Iconium, Derbe, and Lystra. It was here that he would meet the young man who would become his assistant in the work of the gospel, the young man whose name is found in two inspired letters – Timothy.

Behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus” (Acts 16:1). Timothy was not made by Paul; he was made by God! God makes His servants and then connects them in His perfect time. To be sure, Timothy was instructed and mentored by Paul (2 Timothy 3:10-14). But first he was influenced and nurtured by his faithful mother and grandmother (2 Timothy 1:5). Over time, Timothy would oversee the church in Ephesus and carry on the training work of the Apostle (2 Timothy 2:2).

I am grateful for those who invested in me as a very young preacher. With the passing of years, I am more and more grateful for the opportunity to invest in other young preachers. One of those “Timothy’s” and a vital part of our ETJ team is Micah Hendry.

Micah and his family came to the Temple Baptist Church when he was very young. It was a joy to see him and his siblings grow up there and to watch him grow in the Lord. When his father passed away of cancer, Pastor Sexton was out of the country and I was asked to conduct his funeral. Years later, when his mother went to heaven unexpectedly, I was honored to preach her memorial service as well.

Sometime after Jim Hendry went to be with the Lord, Shelley asked me if I would be willing for her son Micah to spend some time with me. She volunteered him to travel and help in any way possible. None of us could have foreseen how the Heavenly Father would bring that to fulfillment!

As a college student, Micah began to volunteer his time and talents to help us. Eventually, we were able to hire him hourly to work on projects. I remember telling Stephen Troell about Micah and my hope that he would become a greater part of the ministry in the days ahead. On one of Stephen’s trips back to the States he took Micah out for lunch and called me after to tell me, “You were right! This young man has the same spirit and heart!”

Stephen began to teach Micah much of what he was doing and train him. When the Lord called Stephen home, Micah was prepared to step in and pick up the work. Micah married Ana Moran, and after graduation, they believed God was leading them to move to West Virginia to help us in a full-time way. The Hendry’s came by faith and have been a tremendous help in the work God has given us.

Micah assists me in all of our content development, broadcast production, and gospel projects. Just a few months ago, Micah and Ana welcomed a beautiful daughter, Esther Shelley. This precious young family is sent out of our home church and they are heart deep in serving both here and around the world. Last summer Micah traveled to Togo, West Africa to help conduct children’s gospel meetings and an ETJ Bible Seminar for pastors and Christian workers.

The Hendry’s have a special love for children. Ana has taught in a Christian school and Micah is tremendously effective in speaking to boys and girls. Each summer they minister in camps and Bible schools. Ana also helps us with any ETJ Tours and special events.

Micah is a diligent student of Scripture and does a wonderful job preaching in local churches. He is available for pulpit supply and special meetings, and I am happy to recommend him. He and his wife have the spirit of a refresher and will be an encouragement to pastors and their people.

So much of Micah’s work is done behind the scenes, but if you are being helped by the online resources it is because of his effort. I am praying that God will touch the hearts of some churches and families who are being blessed by the ministry of ETJ to support the Hendrys in a financial way. They have never asked for anything and we are doing our best to support them as we can, but your gifts would be a personal blessing to them.

God is using this young man and I am confident the most fruitful days are ahead. Please pray for Micah, Ana, and Esther Hendry, and encourage them as they help us to extend God’s Word around the world.
