An Early Wake Up Call January 8, 2019

It was 5:30 a.m. when it went off. I am used to early flights, wake up calls, and alarms. This was different. In fact, the noise was so loud it almost vibrated me out of bed!

The fire alarm in our hotel was deafening. In a matter of moments a knock on the door confirmed that we were being told to evacuate. As I stood on the parking lot with others waiting for the fire department I could not help but think what it will be like someday…

I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left” (Luke 17:34).

Will it be in the middle of the night? What will the trumpet sound like? Who will go and who will be left behind?Perhaps the real question is: will we be ready?

Thankfully, our fire drill was a false alarm. The second coming of Christ will not be. When He comes, His children are going. There will be no space of time to prepare on that day. We will be caught away just as we are.

At breakfast the next morning a very kind couple asked what time the alarm had gone off. They had slept through the entire ordeal! I heard the wife say emphatically to her husband, “We have got to get our hearing aids checked!”

When the Lord Jesus Christ returns no believer will miss Him. But there will be a world of people who are spiritually asleep who will not know what has happened until it is too late. If you do not know the Jesus as your Saviour today is the day to trust Him. Call on Christ now for mercy!

Those of us who have believed on Christ need to be getting ready to meet Jesus, and helping others to prepare as well. The wake up call is coming sooner that you think.

Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh” (Matthew 24:44).
