In January we began offering a free downloadable resource each month. (If you missed the first one, a 30 day prayer guide, you may access it here.) This month we offer our second tool for believers…

Praying for the Preacher

Many years ago my pastor taught me that I could have a part in helping all of those the preacher ministers to if I would labor with the preacher in prayer. God will multiply the fruit of your prayers in the lives of so many people! Prayer is the greatest work.

“Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf” (1 Corinthians 1:11).

Just a few days ago I shared these thoughts with a wonderful church in their mission conference. I challenged them to pray specific, Scriptural requests for both their pastor and the missionaries they support.

Those who preach need the prayers of God’s people! I can testify to this truth. This is no random prayer list. It comes from the inspired pen of the Apostle Paul. It comes from God. Charles Spurgeon observed that the prayers God answers are the ones that begin with Him. These begin with Him.

Personally, I love to pray the Scriptures. It makes my prayer life come alive and feeds my faith. You can know you are praying the will of God when you are praying the very Word of God.

This prayer guide has been designed:

  1. To use. It will fit in your Bible and can serve as a reminder to pray for the preacher during your devotional time. Read the Scriptures given and meditate on them. Turn the very words of God into prayer! There are seven requests – one for every day of the week. Use it with your family and teach your children about praying for the preacher!
  2. To share. We have provided the list in a way that you can easily make copies and share with others. Use it as a bulletin insert. Give it out in a prayer meeting or Sunday School class. Make it part of your missions emphasis. Encourage others to join you in praying for the preacher!

If you have a prayer list of preachers for whom you pray I would be very grateful to be on your list. If I can pray for you about something specific I would love to hear from you. May God raise up a mighty army of pray-ers in our generation!

What Can We Learn From Jonah?

The King Herod who built the Herodium is the same Herod who tried to kill Jesus, and ordered the slaughter of the babies in nearby Bethlehem. He knew his subjects hated him, so before he died, he provided for his tomb to be guarded after his death. After a couple of years, the money ran out so the guards went home. The vengeful locals trashed his palace and smashed his ornate mausoleum to tiny pieces.
