Do You Want to Have a Great Week? Scott Pauley

Today is actually not the beginning of the week…yesterday was. Sunday is the first day of the week! Like all of life each week is to begin with worship. I certainly hope you were able to be with God’s people on the Lord’s day.

This priority was actually true from the beginning. Adam and Eve were not created until day 6, which means that their first day on this planet was not a work day. Their first full day on earth was the sabbath. God made it so that they would start with rest and worship and out of that go forth to their work. Sabbath and Sunday are not the same, but the God acknowledged in both certainly is! Man needs God if any good thing is to be accomplished.

Our “work week” is to grow and flow out of time with our wonderful Savior and fellow believers. Now is the time to take truth we received on Sunday and work it out through the rest of our lives. The worship must continue and the Word must be applied in our homes, our schools, our work places, and communities.

Yes, I know it is M-O-N-D-A-Y! But our Lord is the same every day and there is never a day that He does not want to work deeply in and through His people.

Do you want to have a great week?

  1. Think much on Christ. Let Him be your first and last thoughts each day. Think on Him throughout the day. Thoughts affect emotion and determine direction. “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8). Christ is all of “these things” – think on Him!
  2. Fellowship much with Christ. God never intended us to fellowship with Him one day a week or one time a day. Instead, He repeatedly speaks of the Christian life being a “walk.” Every step is made with Him. Talk to Him throughout the day and listen for HIs voice. Learn to practice the presence of Christ and you will find strength and joy for every task.
  3. Speak much about Christ. Why should it be a strange thing for a believer to want to talk about their Savior? Begin to speak about the goodness of God and the difference Jesus has made in your life. The more you do it the easier it will become. As you speak of Christ you will find the Holy Spirit works on both ends – in your life and the lives of those you are talking to. The heart of a true disciple always comes out in their conversation: “For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:20).

Every day is a day for worship and witness. We celebrate the resurrection of Christ on Sunday but we live with the risen Christ every day! I am praying that you will have a Christ-filled week. If you do, you will have a great week…

Moses Seat found in an ancient synagogue in Chorazin, in Galilee. The seat was located just inside the door of the synagogue and bears an Aramaic inscription with the name of the donor Yudan, the son of Yishmael who paid for building of the seat and its platform. (The seat pictured here is a replica placed where the original was found. The original is now in the Israel Museum.) Photo by John Buckner. Among other finds, the researchers found a synagogue built from the local volcanic basalt stones. Inside the synagogue, beside the ark where the biblical scrolls were stored, was a seat. It has been identified by many scholars as Moses’ Seat. Although it dates to after the time of Christ, this find is a remarkable fusion of biblical text and archeology. It illuminates the words of Matthew and shows us the custom He referenced.

I think I probably struggle to pray enough. I do pray in the morning and at night and more in the morning that the rest of the day. I wish I prayed more ! However I get caught up with life as the day goes on and therefore less prayer as the day goes on.

One thing God is teaching me is to pray throughout the day, to turn each appointment or person or situation into an opportunity to pray. We cannot always be alone or on our knees but we can live in the atmosphere of prayer.
