THE NAME November 27, 2020

2010-17-The-Name-SLIDE-768x492 (1)

There is no name like the name of our great God! The apostles said of the name of Jesus, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). We are told in Philippians 2:9, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name.” I say again: There is no name like THE NAME!

The varied names and titles of God found throughout Scripture are full of meaning. They are more than identification – they are a revelation of the very character of our Lord. The name of God is connected to the nature of God.

As we begin this season of celebrating the birth of Christ it is important to remember that Christ did not begin in Bethlehem and that the Bible is a progressive revelation of the one, true and living God. The Jehovah of the Old Testament was revealed in the Jesus of the New Testament. From Genesis to Revelation the LORD is simply helping us to know Himself.

For the next six weeks we are going to take a very special look at THE NAME of God found in the Word of God. It cannot be exhaustive but I hope it will open your understanding to the power of THE NAME and help you to love Him more than ever. Here is a general overview of our study:

Week 1 – THE NAME of God and how to use it

Week 2-3 – THE NAME of Jehovah

Week 4 – THE NAME of the Lord Jesus Christ

Week 5 – THE NAME of our Father

Week 6 – THE NAME of the Holy Spirit

The first episode begins Monday and I hope you will plan to join us for every study! Invite your family and friends to join you and let’s discover again the power of THE NAME.

The King Herod who built the Herodium is the same Herod who tried to kill Jesus, and ordered the slaughter of the babies in nearby Bethlehem. He knew his subjects hated him, so before he died, he provided for his tomb to be guarded after his death. After a couple of years, the money ran out so the guards went home. The vengeful locals trashed his palace and smashed his ornate mausoleum to tiny pieces.

The altar of sacrifice in front of the holy of holies in Arad. Even though it is a smaller imitation, the temple here gives the visitor an idea of how the Temple in Jerusalem appeared.
