“They Strengthened Their Hands for This Good Work.” August 10, 2021

Weariness is a part of life and certainly a reality for those who are intent on working for the Lord. Even Jesus grew weary on His journey (John 4:6). Yet as you read the rest of the story in John 4 you discover that He knew how to get Himself refreshed and in the midst of it continued to minister to others. This is what we all must learn if we are to continue moving forward.

One month from today we will be in our annual Rest Conference. This retreat for ministers and their spouses is a way to come apart for a short time to have your soul renewed. This year we have taken as our theme Nehemiah 2:18:

Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.”

Our God is the strong One! He never gets weary or tired (Isaiah 40:28). There is always an end to our resources, but thank God, there is no end to His! He makes a way so that we can find strength to keep building and battling in these days.

Would you consider joining us? Pastor Scott Hooks and I, along with our wives, look forward to spending time with you and studying the Word together. What Can We Learn From Jonah?

The King Herod who built the Herodium is the same Herod who tried to kill Jesus, and ordered the slaughter of the babies in nearby Bethlehem. He knew his subjects hated him, so before he died, he provided for his tomb to be guarded after his death. After a couple of years, the money ran out so the guards went home. The vengeful locals trashed his palace and smashed his ornate mausoleum to tiny pieces.

The altar of sacrifice in front of the holy of holies in Arad. Even though it is a smaller imitation, the temple here gives the visitor an idea of how the Temple in Jerusalem appeared.
