Don’t Listen to this ETJ Series! Scott Pauley

Today, we begin a brand new ETJ study on the only man in the Bible called “the evangelist.” Philip was not the only evangelist in the early church, but he was the Holy Spirit’s model for what an evangelist would do. His example is not just for preachers; it is for every believer to become more effective in preaching the gospel wherever they are!

We are blessed each week to hear from listeners about their favorite studies and what God is doing in their lives. But our next series may not be for you…

  • If you do not want to be challenged to become everything God saved you to be, don’t listen to this series!
  • If you are content to go to Heaven without considering those on their way to Hell, don’t listen to this series!
  • If you don’t want to be used by God to make an eternal difference in someone’s life, don’t listen to this series!
  • If you are unwilling to obey God and minister to others, don’t listen to this series!

The weak, anemic brand of Christianity that is popular in Western culture is an eternity removed from the Christian faith of the New Testament. Times change; truth does not. We must return to the biblical pattern.

The ETJ podcast has just finished a special week of gospel episodes, Walking the Romans Road. Truly, there is no message like the message of God’s grace to man through the finished work of Christ – and no time like now to give it. So many souls are hungry for good news and searching for answers. We must not miss this moment.

A New Series on Philip

Today, we began a brand new ETJ study on the only man in the Bible called “the evangelist.” Philip was not the only evangelist in the early church, but he was the Holy Spirit’s model for what an evangelist would do. His example is not just for preachers; it is for every believer to become more effective in preaching the gospel wherever they are! (Click HERE to listen to the full series as it releases.)

Philip was a gospel Christian. He was consumed with a passion to obey God, share Christ, and be used of the Holy Spirit to reach others with the truth.

Are you?

It is not enough that we know the gospel, believe the gospel, and want others to hear the gospel. Charles Spurgeon said, “I will not believe that thou hast tasted of the honey of the gospel if thou can eat it all to thyself.” We must do our part to give the gospel!

We pity the condition of sinners and complain about the current spiritual situation in our world. But good intentions never saved a soul. David Livingstone’s words cut to the heart: “Sympathy is no substitute for action.”

Is it really “good news” if we never share it? Oswald J. Smith said, “The supreme task of the church is the evangelization of the world. No one has the right to hear the gospel twice until everyone has had an opportunity to hear it at least once.” We have work to do.

Philip has become my favorite New Testament character, and soon I believe you will understand why. This series is not to fill the time or soothe the conscience. It is to help us become gospel Christians! If that is your desire, join me on your favorite podcast player or at ETJ.Bible this week!

“The Great Commission is not an option to be considered; it is a command to be obeyed.” – Hudson Taylor

Moses Seat found in an ancient synagogue in Chorazin, in Galilee. The seat was located just inside the door of the synagogue and bears an Aramaic inscription with the name of the donor Yudan, the son of Yishmael who paid for building of the seat and its platform. (The seat pictured here is a replica placed where the original was found. The original is now in the Israel Museum.) Photo by John Buckner. Among other finds, the researchers found a synagogue built from the local volcanic basalt stones. Inside the synagogue, beside the ark where the biblical scrolls were stored, was a seat. It has been identified by many scholars as Moses’ Seat. Although it dates to after the time of Christ, this find is a remarkable fusion of biblical text and archeology. It illuminates the words of Matthew and shows us the custom He referenced.
